​An Inspiring Visit from Jacqui

We were delighted to welcome Jacqui for a fascinating talk about her paper sculptures and the creative journey behind them. She shared the story of how she became involved in this unique art form and explained how her work has evolved over the years.

One of the most interesting aspects of the presentation was learning about the extensive research that underpins each piece. Jacqui showed photographs, sketches and drawings from the many locations she has visited for inspiration. It quickly became clear that the background research is just as important to her process as the sculpture itself, helping her to understand the history, atmosphere and stories connected to each place.
Jacqui describes her creations as sculptures rather than models. Rather than producing accurate, scale reproductions of buildings, her aim is to capture the essence, emotion and history of a location. Many of her works explore buildings that have changed over time, particularly homes that have fallen into dereliction. Through her sculptures, she reflects on the loss of not only the building itself, but also the human stories that once surrounded it.

More recently, Jacqui has expanded her work to include clothing-based sculptures. These pieces act as a powerful proxy for the people whose stories she is telling, bringing a human presence to the narrative even when the individuals themselves are absent.

The talk provided a wonderful insight into Jacqui’s artistic practice and demonstrated how art, history and storytelling can be combined to create deeply evocative and thought-provoking works. It was an engaging and inspiring presentation, and we thank Jacqui for sharing her work and experiences with us.
